The States tab is used to select the list of states which are available in your online store. The list of states affects any screen in your store where you are displaying an address: account creation, checkout, etc.
Unlike countries, there is no “master” list of states that affects all of your stores. The list of states that you present to your customers must be configured on a store-by-store basis.
You can change the order the states are displayed in. For example, if your store is based in California and most of your customers are from California, you may wish to have California appear first in the drop down list.
To reorder the states list, click the menu button next to the Add State button. Then click Sort. On the page that opens, click and hold on the eight dots to the far left of the state you wish to move, then drag the state to where you want it to display in the list. When you have reached the spot in the list you want the state to be, release your mouse button.
You could also click the box next to the state you wish to move, and then click the Move To button. In the drop down, choose Move to Top, Move to Bottom or Move to Position.
If you click Move to Position, click the map pin symbol on the left side where you want the state to be listed in the list.
