In Miva Merchant 9.4 and later you are able to manage your meta data on a page template, category, and product level. This video will cover what you need to know to have full control of meta data in your store.
Accessing Meta Tags
If you view the page source (right click on your home page and click on “View Page Source", you’ll see what you currently have listed under your meta tags.
You can configure a global default for meta data keywords and description in your Miva Merchant store. Here’s how:
Go into your store admin, click on “Menu” and then “User Interface.”
Once you are in the User Interface area, click on “SEO.”
Here you will see an area for Keywords which can be a collection of choice words separated by commas, and you should add a Description that has a more natural language feel so enter in a short paragraph. When you are done, hit the blue “Update” button.
When you go back to your store and hit “Refresh” and view the Page Source, you’ll see your new Meta Keywords and Meta Description showing up. Also, because these descriptions are global, they will show up across all of your store pages.
If you want to add specific Meta data to a particular page, go back into the Store Admin, again under “User Interface.” This time click on the tab that says “Pages.” Once here click on the “About Us” page (ABUS) and then click the “Open Page” icon.
Once you’re in the About Us page you’ll want to click on the “SEO” tab. You’ll now see the fields to enter a unique Title, Keywords and a Description for just this page. Enter in your specific Keywords and Description for this page, then click “Update.”
When you view your store and hit “Refresh” when you check your Page Source you should see the new unique Key Words and Description in the Meta Fields for this page.
You can add unique Meta Key Words and Descriptions for any page template in your store, including the Category Display Page and the Product Display pages by following the same directions as above.
In this example we’ll pick the Under Armour® Hustle Backpack. In your admin you can type the name of your product in the “Search” field and then click on “Edit Product.” Once your product comes up, scroll down to “Meta Tag Settings.” Fill in the fields with the info you want and then click “Update.” When back in your store once you click update on that product, you’ll see the unique Meta info you chose for that individual product.
So to recap:
The default functionality in Miva is to have Meta Tags Cascade down to categories and products. If this behavior is not desired, it can be changed via template code:
